At 6PM this evening I did a live slot with James Whale on LBC, talking about the youth alcohol report that the London Assembly has just published.
I've done plenty of "tough" interviews but was genuinely surprised by the one I did with him. He started by saying how shocked he was by the scale of youth drinking in London. He then went on to slate the fact that we had investigated and written the report.
I don't understand why he would devote an hour to discuss the findings of a report he doesn't think has anything interesting in it.
None of that worries me much but I have to confess to being disappointed to hear him then goad callers on to slag me off personally for the next half an hour.
Recommendations from the report are already being taken up by Croydon council and I am confident that it will make a difference. I don't care if it doesn't conform to James Whale's brand of uber-simplistic politics.
I'm not going to lose any sleep over this and I'll be happy to go on the show again. If James behaves like a dick again I'll blog about him being a dick again.

Completely agree with you James.
Mr Whale think that David Cameron is 'not fit to govern', wanted to run as a UKIP candidate for Mayor of London (until told that he would have to give up his radio show), and then got sacked for telling listeners to vote for Boris.
I think this Whale is a bit out of his depth when it comes to serious politics.
Good for you !!
There's a pattern - anything or anyone presenting 'truth' which reflects badly on Nulabor and/or it's policies, is publicly humiliated - radio, TV/press.
Highlighting the results of extended licencing hours - increased alcohol consumption is not 'Labour friendly'. The media is increasingly and heavily 'left wing biased' - James Whale probably acted on orders.
Keep up your good work.
James,
When I saw your headline I thought you were paying tribute to his manhood!
I'm constantly surprised when politicians go on shows and complain because they are given a hard time. If you went on & he just said "my my aren't you marvellous, you are so right." it wouldn't exactly be enthralling, would it?
My advice? Don't take it so personally and don't get uoset. Just make your point with good humour. Calling him a dick makes you look thin skinned.
Whale is a totally talentless gimp. Lord knows why he has a radio show.
