Slap wrist for my old sparring partner

I stood as the Conservative candidate for Lewisham East at the 2005 General Election, my opponent was Bridget Prentice MP. She has been caught misusing parliamentary funds and has been told of by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner, John Lyon. Naughty, naughty!

The case refers a letter sent out called "East meets West" and was clearly an attempt to raise her profile amongst voters that don't come into her constituency until the boundary changes take effect.

Ms Prentice's defence was that she didn't know that she wasn't supposed to send publicly funded literature to voters outside her own constituency!!!!!

EXCUSE ME!?!?!?

How could she not understand that public money given to an MP to send leaflets to their constituents can only be used to send leaflets the THEIR own constituents?

You may think that I'm being a bit cynical, but Bridget has form in this area. Have a look at the last two paragraphs of this post from the lead up to the 2005 election.

A disgraceful and deliberate misuse of public funds. MPs believe that they are above everything and that laws, rules and regulations don't apply to them.

If there was any integrity left in Parliament she should be thrown out immediately for misappropriating these funds.

Isn't this basically fraud? Isn't that a criminal offence?

Back in July Councillor Mark Morris, the leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, made a formal complaint to John Lyon CB, the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, over the use of the MP's communication allowance.

Jim Dowd in Lewisham West has been doing the same with the future Lewisham West and Penge constituency which includes part of Bromley currently outside his constituency. Hopefully this abuse has also been reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner.

MPs = corrupt sleazeballs. They just trouser our money and behave how they want. No wonder they are held in such contempt.

Let's just hope the police don't try to gather any evidence against her. That would be outrageous!

Of course it would be, Jimmy. Because our MP's are such paragoms of virtue and are above the law........NOT.
