I find it hard to believe the the Prime Minister, or at least the Home Secretary, had no prior knowledge of the investigation and that an arrest might be on the cards.
It is feasible that they didn't get a phone call just before the police knocked on Mr Green's door but I cannot believe that they were unaware that Damian Green might end up arrested.
Considering the fact that many top Labour ministers, including Gordon Brown made their names on the back of leaked information it is deeply hypocritical of them to cry wolf now.

Hilarious! It's called karma and its coming home to roost.
Boris Johnson shamefully thinks he can manipulate the police by sacking the Commissioner and then appointing one of his stooges to carry out political policing his style, with the full support of the Conservatives.
Now the Conservatives are screeching and wringing their hands in a show of pious disbelief because the police have arrested one of their own on suspicion of committing a CRIMINAL act. What goes around comes around. No-one is above the law.
Politics must be kept out of policing - and that's a message for both the Conservatives and this corrupt Labour government.
Excalibur is nicely comparing apples and steaks.
What I think is very interesting is that Boris knew about it and warned against it and yet nobody in central government knew? If it looks like BS, smells like BS, feels like BS...
I find it hard to believe that George Osbourne was not trying to get money for the Conservative party from a Russian oligarch. If you are going to believe George Osbourne you might as well believe Jackie Smith.
I think the public would be right to assume that both front benches are packed with liars and people handling stolen goods (documents illegally obtained from government departments).
I happened to attend a parliamentary debate in the late 1980s (the only one I have attended) where they were discussing laws to prevent civil servants leaking information to MPs. No doubt this was a direct response to the leaks received by Gordon Brown. Since the Conservative government introduced this law, they should not complain when they get arrested for breaking it.
Tories need to be more careful who they call hypocrites.
