Damian Green's arrest

I have a great deal of respect for the Counter Terrorism officers of the Met but last night's actions are deeply worrying.

Damian Green has been highly critical of the government's ineptitude in immigration matters and has backed up his criticism with evidence leaked from the Home Office. Government leaks are a thorny issue, they can be hugely important and beneficial to the nation or they can deeply undermine the security of the country. I do not believe for a minute that Damian would have had anything to do with a leak that hurt Britain or the British people.

The information that Damian has made public has been hugely embarrassing to the government, I quite understand the government's desire to stop the leaks but if they have abused the Met's Counter Terrorism team to do it they are in very dangerous, Orwellian, waters.

How do you know that his leaks did not harm the British people? Surely confidential information has the capacity to harm otherwise it wouldn't be of that nature?

Instead of using the tag 'anonymous' why not use 'credulous'? It would be more appropriate to your comment.

A lot of government information is confidential because it has the capacity to harm - the government!

Public can make the "judgement" about the harm caused by Damian's recent leaks - they were mainly related to cover up by Jaccqui Smith and about illegal immigrants working in House of Commons. I do not think any British person other than Jaccqui Smith is harmed by these leaks. Or else the Govt should come clean about the "gravity" of leaks and "describe" what indeed was any harm done.

We should also question why these seemingly harmless informations were classified as confidential. Isnt it a misuse of Freedom of Information Act to mark all "bad" news as confidential?

There were no anti terror teams knocking on politician's door when 2.5% cut on VAT was leaked much before PBR.

Hilarious! It's called karma and its coming home to roost.

Boris Johnson shamefully thinks he can manipulate the police by sacking the Commissioner and then appointing one of his stooges to carry out political policing his style, with the full support of the Conservatives.

Now the Conservatives are screeching and wringing their hands in a show of pious disbelief because the police have arrested one of their own on suspicion of committing a CRIMINAL act. What goes around comes around. No-one is above the law.

Politics must be kept out of policing - and that's a message for both the Conservatives and this corrupt Labour government.
