The Lib Dems don't believe their own spin. I have noted in the past how they can't even maintain their veneer for a few minutes.
Paddick's contortions while trying not to answer the "who should your supporters put as a second preference?" is another example of this. The simple answer should be:
"I intend to be in the final two candidates and as such it really doesn't matter who they put as a second preference because that vote won't count".
He and his team clearly haven't thought of that line because they don't really believe that he will be in the final two.

I think he tried that response, to which the interviewer asks the question "why can't you say, when both Boris and Ken can?" (Real answer is because only Brian's answer matters, the other two are academic).
The better answer is Sian Berry but he seems to have abandoned a number of Green policies and got as much criticism from Sian as Boris did. So that answer leaves him wide open to attack from the Greens, who he will want to take as many votes from as possible in the first round.
Poor old Brian, he has the same problem as the rest of London; choose between frying pan or fire, devil or deep blue sea. With that in mind he should look at who the BNP choose as their second choice (Boris) and choose the opposite - always a good tactic.
James, on the BBC Politics show yesterday Brian Paddick said that his 2nd preference would be a secret ballot, but that neither Boris or Mr Livingstone would be receiving it - not sure who else it would be worth giving it to? So much for Lib-Dem claims on openness and transparency.
