It is both shocking and saddening to hear about a terrible incident like this, especially one in a quiet residential area.

It's terrible for the families on the five on board the Cessna, but it seems that the pilot was a hero by managing to keep the plane in the air long enough to avoid the most condensed area of houses. That wasn't luck, it was bravery and skill which saved unknown other lives.
My condolences to all connected to this awful event; families and friends, and my tributes to the skill of the pilot in saving other unknown potential victims.
Of course local residents - from Chislehurst, Petts Wood, Crofton and Farnborough have been fearing a major incident for years. And the PRUH is just up the road.
We must fight plans to expand the airport.
This tragedy should not be used by local people (or the wider environmental movement) to complain about the number of flights.
If people don't want to live so close to an airport they can choose to live in another part of Kent rather than right next to Biggin Hill. Biggin Hill is one of London's oldest airports so nobody can say they were not aware there was an airport there when they moved in.
The property prices round the area are very high, suggesting that people are not put off by the small planes and it would be easy for most residents to move to a place where it is 'safer' (quieter). I for one would be happy to be rich enough to live in one of the properties around Biggin Hill but I will have to make do with living in a part of London that most residents of Kent believe is noisier and more dangerous than the area around Biggin Hill.
And I would remind people that more people are killed cycling each year than by plane crashes. Does this mean we should prevent any increase in cycling?
