Brian Paddick was formerly a Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police Service. The caption in which you claim he is impersonating a police officer is misleading. He was utilising an old ancient picture, and has never been "seen" wearing his uniform in public after retiring from the Met Police. We need to distinguish between, on the one hand, whether he was seen in uniform after he retired, and secondly, whether he was taking advantage of an ancient picture. It is certainly not illegal to use an old picture, particularly if it encourages trust in the police. I am not against it.
Mr Paddick, according to the Met’s internal news, was the Met’s most senior gay police officer, who was selected prospective Mayor for the Liberal Democrats.
He was not, as you suggest, impersonating a police officer, apparently he is making use of his ancient pictures as an ex officer in the Met Police. He is most notably known by the public as former policeman. There is nothing wrong with that. I may publicly disagree with Brian’s politics, but he has given a dedicated service to Londoners as former officer of the Met.
It may be recorded further that, there are restrictions on officers that they are not allowed to be a member of any political party; however, they [officers’] can hold personal opinions on a wide range of political issues. However, officers should never be bias in their day to day affairs in the Metropolitan Police. Furthermore, I personally want to see more people from all diverse communities, including the LGBT communities and women applicants, applying for and joining the Metropolitan Police. We need to ensure the police reflect the wide ranging diversity that makes up this great city.
