I noticed that there was a greater than average amount of traffic on my site today, unfortunately there have been hundreds of searches for Emmanuel Odunewu / Lewisham stabbing.
It saddens and worries me that this has happened so close to my home.

It is sad that your blog is one of the few sources on the web and in newspapers that cares about the death of a black teenager in Lewisham. I can't help thinking that if Emmanuel had been a white lawyer in Chelsea the papers would have been full of reports.
The fact that this happened right outside the largest police station in Europe and that nobody has been charged, should be far more worrying than attacks on community support officers in Manchester evicting people from their house.
What is more your site stats prove that at least some of the British public want answers and the media is letting them down (as well as the police).
Emmanuel was a friend of mine, i cannot put my name up as i know the person that killed him ad i did report it to crimestoppers.jordan mayers has been caught and charged with the murder of Emmanuel. Emmanuel was also known as Quietz because he was so sweet and quiet, he wouldnt hurt a fly which is why we were all sad to hear that someone would want to kill him. i would also like to thank you for paying attention to black youths and taking time to post his death on your website... i would also like to thank the staff at lewisham hospital for helping all of us when we were at the hospital on wednesday and thursday night which was the night of his death. Emmanuel will be missed by all of his friends and family, e loved him soooooooooooo much he was so lovely to everyone.
"he wouldnt hurt a fly" ok....im not talking bad of the dead but you know and the rest of lewisham knows emmanuel wasn't no angel.
yea say what you want about the youth in lewisham but i knew quietz he was a close freind but e-man was one of the better people to come out of lewisham and seeing hes memorial picture made me cry i still cant beileve hes gone i no quietz will never be forgotten he touched alot of peoples lives
Quiets may have been a sweet boy but true say you dont no what they was arguing about. Jordan wouldnt have just stabbed him for no reason so he must have done something wrong. yeah it was a tragedy but whose to say there is no reason? im sure he didn't stab him for fun!!!
well we all no quietz so you can all guess what they was argueing about and if u havent heard yet when you do it will hurt u even more somthing so stupid can cause so much greif
well maybe we should all think about Jordan being locked away on christmas day on his own. Im sure he never ment for this to happen.
A fight that got out of hand.
There are people posting comments here that know both the boys better than me.
Ask yourselves this. If neither had been carrying knives would Emmanuel be dead now and would Jordan be in jail?
Please explain to me why you feel you need to carry knives or guns.
a fight that got out of hand....
quietz was fighting yes.. and carryed on fighting after he got stabbed in the kneck then jason stabbed him again in the kneck then 1 more time in the head if emmanuel did carry a knife then maybe both of them would still be here ...
yutes carry knives incase they get into a situation sutch as e-man and jason was in ..
I still remember holding Emmanuel in my hands when he was a baby; he was even quiet then. Regardless of the reasons for the fight, WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO RESPECT FOR ANOTHER HUMAN LIFE?
I am sorry to hear about emmanuel, but as someone said jordan would not have stabbed him for no reason. jordan is a good person, he was going to university this yr to study law and b4 this i would have said he wouldn't hurt a fly, but things happen. it's sad!!
well i didnt no emanuel to tuff, but i always see him about and me and my close friend used to always laugh at him(in a good way) coz e was so unique. everytime he spoke to us he had a big grin on his face. da day before he died we saw him and wen we found out we couldnt believe it knowin that we only saw him da day before. he was so cute and he put a smile on my face everytime i saw him, he didnt hav to say anyfin id jus smile. i also new jordon aswel, spoke to him a couple of times, he went to my college. His a okey boy, wudnt expect dis to happen, i sit der and fink, if only certain fings happened den maybe e-man wud b here today but iv realised we gotta face reality now, emanuel is in a better place now, i will stil rememba his smile. Jordan shudnt ov took anova life because reality will hit him now, wat goes around comes back around, coz Jordan does not deserve to die coz he tuk someones life he jus has to be punished for it and he will be punished for it whether he gets sent to prison or not coz deep down inside him for da rest of his life he has to live wif dat he killed one of our ppl dem dat everyone from da bits, everyone from blue borough new and cared about.
is so shocking i knew jordan ver well i went to school with him and he was in my tutor group-he wasnt the niciest of people i can say that and i didnt particuly like him i had had a few incidents where he was quite rude to me even once grabbed my arm and tried to twist it so he cud see a letter that my tutor had given me--but i never thought he wud stab sum1 that is disgusting some people say there must be a reason that emanuel must ave sed sumthin i disagree it could be somethin like jordans friends winding him up sayin emanual said something bout him or gave him a dirty look-----so many innocent people get killed and i do believe emanuel didnt do or say anything wrong i think things got heated because of peer pressure you know this whole gang thing and poor emanuel died DISGUSTING im so shocked jordan doesnt deserve any one on xmas wat bout emanual not being with hes family for christmas i know what and who ill be thinkin bout him and me spendin it wiv sum of my family xxxxx
I do not care about anyone who writes negative comments about Emmanuel Yes jordan alone in jail rubbish emmanuel alone in the cold cemmetry that seems great to some of you.
Nobody has the right to kill how can you stab someone in the neck face ear rib cage and say a fight out of hand you should think again because no one knows whats around the corner.
I only recently found out about this whole thing..its terrible to know it happened especially the fact I went to school with Jordan, he just seemed like a normal guy!I never thought he would do anything like this!As for people that didnt know the cause for what happened (including myself) you need to stop posting crap, its very sad that a young guy died for what seems so petty and also that another young man was so fueled up with anger to commit such a crime but in the end they were both young with a long life ahead of them and sadly emmanuels life was cut short and jordan acted before thinking resulting in a long prison sentence. My condolences go out to the family.
Emmanuel was not carrying a knife on the day, he was killed (and I do not believe he ever carried one please correct me if I am wrong) also as Tuesday was the only day he did not have lectures at University, it is my belief that Jordan did set out to stab and wound or kill Emmanuel or why else would he need a knife to fight someone who was unarmed. without him carrying the knife Emmanuel would be alive. Jordan therefore deserves to be in jail. He can continue his studies inside and hopefully come out reformed.
Fortunately I did attend some of the hearings at court and know that his parents lied on oath as to his whereabouts and as to how he got bruises to his head, and a cut on his finger which he sustained during the fight - If parents are ready to go to that extent for their children who misbehave, it is no surprise that so many youths keep doing the wrong things and correction becomes difficult. Discipline has to start from home and we have to learn to respect each other rather than glorify the ghetto and gang culture that is taking over our neighbourhoods.
I have sound this pagw whislt revewing the case. This is a sad case but I knew both of the boys, E-man was carryin a knife that day, like he did most days. He woz wicked 2 know but he u knew him you knew wot he woz really like and how can u all say Jordan done it, were u there, did u get evidence in court? No u didn't because no1 can be sure, thats why a retrail has set!
No retrial took place. Why? Because the police knew all along that Emmanuel had attacked Jordan outside the police station and Jordan defended himself against the 20 stone thug. They also knew that Emmanuel had a criminal record for violence and robbery and had even boasted to the Lewisham police how he loved guns and wishes he had one.
So they offered a manslaughter by reason of provocation charge. Jordan pleaded guilty and was given a sentence far less than the life sentence he was given for murder.
Jordan won his appeal because the 5 appeal court judges saw that the secret witness the police and prosecution set against Jordan was lying and had a criminal record similar to Emmanuel. They quashed the conviction for murder
To make matters worse for the police they couldn't get any witnesses to attend the retrial, not even former police witnesses. So they went for as lesser charge and it seems Jordan was content to admit to defending himself.
Check out the Mercury of 3 June for some of the real story, not that rubbish inside the South London Press.
Jordan was wrongfully convicted of murder. That's a fact. Emmanuel attacked him outside the police station. That's a fact.
The so-called gentle giant has proved to be a giant thug. That's a fact.
The thing is that no retrial for murder took place. Instead the police offered a manslaughter by provocation charge admitting that Emmanuel attacked Jordan.
what are you sayin? That last trial was rubbish coz wot the fuzz said woz a lie.
I know who that secret witness was and she was not there but the feds were happy for her to convict jordan of murder. But the five wize judges saw through her
For the people that are judging both Quiets & Jordan. You cannot be making conclusions when you do not know both of them. I knew both Quiets & Jordan for the same amount of time. Quiets name says it all he was a quiet loveable character. Jordan was also a loveable character and caring. How many stories have you heard and seen about normal people doing things that is out of their character. We should be looking at the community not just the individuals. I believe Jordan did not plan to kill Quiets but to kind of scare him. Situation get out of hands whether or not Quiets started the fight. That gave Jordan no reason to stab him. Whether Quiets was an angel or not gave Jordan no reason to take someone elses life (sources show that he repeatedly stabbed quiets). I came to lewisham literally an hour or so after the incident. I was so hurt by the fact that two men that i both respected was either dead or a killer. Quiets meant a lot to the lewisham community. He knew everyone and would go out of his was to please other. My main objective is not to bad mouth Jordan or the situation. If Quiets mother can forgive Jordan then why can't we. She said to me "don't cry emmanuel wouldn't want to see you crying. Instead promote his life and make sure everyone knew the person he was". That is what i'm doing. Emmanuel a.k.a Quiets was a lovable character, kind, caring, funny, humble etc the list could go on. You need to all know that we are all humans and our body is out to sin. Its our soul that is what is important & quiets soul was beautiful. And will continue to shine no matter what you people think.
You say that you knew both boys equally and that those who posted the comments don't know any of them. Well from pretending to be fair, you seem to come down on the side of quiets and his family, showing yourself not to be fair or 'balanced.'
You should be more informed. You say 'sources say' that quiets was stabbed several times. You mean you were at the hearing on 28 May. I don't think so.
Perhaps you should do as the long post above suggested: read the Mercury and you will learn that quiets attacked Jordan outside the police station, knocking him down twice with his 20 stone fists. If you say you knew him then why did he go wild outside the police station?
People who were there said Jordan was waiting for a bus and quiets
lumbered towards him and abused him. He wasn't asking Jordan to join him in a prayer meeting nor to read scriptures together.
After he was wrongfully convicted for murder, the police then realised that quiets was the thug and offered a manslaughter by provocation charge.
Wake up
Yeah i knew them both. Where in my comment did you see that i said i was going to be balanced to be pretending.
I knew them both and if one of them done wrong then i will obviously state it which i did.
If i said source said blah blah what sense would it make, to ask if i was there? I was referring to newspaper articles and people that earlier commented.
I actually tried to look for the article but couldnt find it. I didnt say quietz didnt attack jordan as i wasn't there. Was you?
As for the comment you wrote about jordan waiting at the bus stop you are highly gassed. If you actually believe that story then you a fool and me repling to your comment is pointless.
Quietz is dead so referring him to a 20 stone person is not neccessary. That obviously show what type of person you are. Give him some respect regardless if you like him or not.
Jordan got away for what he done and thats due to the lack of community support. He should have got longer. Fair enough i knew him but if you do wrong you have to be punished.
In that last entry of 25 June I think there is some confusion in what the commentator is saying.
First, I checked the Mercury mentioned by the commentator of 5 and 22 June and it was 3 June issue on page 6. In the second column it states quite clearly how the court heard that Emmanuel had attacked Jordan, punching him twice to the ground, BEFORE he pulled a knife from his sleeve and "repeatedly slashed at his chest and neck." It says nothing about stabbing.
Second, you are right in saying that Jordan did not mean to kill but what I want to know, which you seem silent on, is why Emmanuel attacked Jordan outside a police station of all places?
Third, why do you say "he got away with it?" Got away with what? He didn't get away with murder as you seem to imply because he was tried and found guilty in 2007 and then in 2008 had that murder conviction quashed by the court of appeal. Why? Because a prosecution witness was seen to be lying by the high court judges when she said she saw Jordan produce a screwdriver from his waist, leap at Emmanuel and stab him repeatedly. Convictions achieved my deception or perjury are ruled inadmissible if found out.
If the police and the CPS accepted that Emmanuel attacked Jordan it means also that they had no other option but to replace the failed murder charge with one of manslaughter accepting that prior to the incident Jordan had been provoked by Emmanuel's attack on him. 'Provocation' in the context of this charge meant that any 'reasonable person' would have 'lost control' had they been subject to the same provocation.
The court also accepted that Emmanuel was HUGE in comparison to his assailant.
YES IT IS SAD THAT ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND ANOTHER IN JAIL. BUT WHO IS TO BLAME?? THE ATTACKER OF THE VICTIM?
I hope some of the misconceptions about this case have been settled as everyone seems to be an expert, even Jimmy B's 2007 entry.
This post is evidence based.
