The New Deal has been criticised by the Conservatives for ages. Whenever we do so the Minister in charge falls back on the old "you Tories are ogres" defence, which in this case is based around a combination of "you want young people not to have jobs" and "unemployment soared under the Conservatives".The first point is clearly rubbish and the figures published in the Times proves that Labour have failed miserably to tackle youth unemployment.
Just like the gold sell off, tax credits, pension credits, etc. another of Gordon Brown's pet projects has shown itself to be well intentioned but useless. If he had just given the Bank of England its independence and then retired he might have got away with it.

and of course the Tories voted against giving the Bank of England independence. If it was such a good thing why did you party oppose it in 1997?
Because we voted against the government out of "principle" irrespective of the issue.
The fact is Ken Clarke was looking into this in the last Conservative parliament but felt that he couldn't because it would be portrayed as the Conservative "privatizing the Bank of England".
That has changed under David Cameron, the education bill, climate change and Trident being good examples.
Excuse me, what is Cameron's view of Trident?
He is a conservative ergo; the strength of the British to wage war against foreign powers is uppermost in his mind I hope? This world is rapidly running out of space & resources. A nation requires that the government is capable of providing those resources by WHATEVER means! Therefore we need Trident. It’s a terrible scenario, but one that become a political reality in the next 50 years.
DC and the Conservatives have supported the Government's decision to renew our independent nuclear deterrent.
Does he want to increase or keep the limited capability we have at the moment, or is he in favor of reducing it like Blair?
