I can hardly believe what I am hearing about the Afghanistan deployment. Not content with sending too few troops it now seems as though they were sent out with too few bloody bullets.Apparently the military chiefs now need to go cap in hand to the treasury for enough money to get the job done. BTW when was the last time that Gordon Brown visited a military unit? Answers on a postcard please.

I'll let you into a little secret.
Even though our Apache's are mostly useless 'cos we had them built in britain, we opted to keep the munitions (gun & missiles) that the yanks make. When the fighting kicked off in Iraq in 2003, the pentagon went straight out & bought the whole of the muntions stocks off the shelf, and told the manufacturers that they'd by the next three yeasr worth as well. Upshot? Our MOD can't get any even if they had the budget. Which they had....
Part two.
As we all know, if you have a budget, and don't spend it (the shelves that used to be full of shiney hellfires are now empty) the bean counters come along and cut it. You could'nt make this stuff up! SO now we have no bullets & no budget to buy them whenever they become available. Oh, and exactly the same thing has happened to Chinook Helicopter spares, so await the new media frenzy when that little problem comes to light.
