There are some days when a quick skim across the news sites leaves me feeling positive and refreshed.
Today was not one of them.
I read that the North Koreans are practicing blowing up the world, here, here and here. It is interesting that the anti nuclear defence lobby seem t have quietly forgotten that the North Koreans are a real threat. You plan defence for what you cannot predict rather for what you can.

I don't think North Korea are particularly interested in whether or not the UK has nuclear weapons. As long as the US can wipe them out does it matter if we can.
Planning defense for what you cannot predict is not really a sensible policy. Can you tell us what the military have planned for an invasion from the daleks, of course not, they plan based on predictions. That is why NATO is still best prepared for an invasion of Western Europe from the USSR. What we need is a flexible military capable of deploying fast to any part of the world, rather than blowing it up and destroying ourselves in a policy based on Mutually Assured Destruction.
